Deccan Odyssey is one of India's leading luxury tourist trains and was developed through an initiative involving Maharashtra tourism and Indian Railways.

The train made its inaugural journey from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai on 16 January 2004.

Its design was influenced by the royal and cultural history of the Deccan region. Guest coaches combine heritage-inspired interiors with modern facilities.

Unlike a conventional train operating one permanent route, Deccan Odyssey offers multiple curated tourism itineraries.

Depending on the selected journey, passengers may visit historic cities, forts, palaces, archaeological monuments, wildlife destinations and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The train itself is not UNESCO-listed, but cultural heritage forms a major part of its identity and tourism experience.
