CNF Status Meaning
CNF means confirmed. In PNR status, it is the most reassuring reservation status because the passenger has a confirmed booking.
What CNF means
CNF indicates that the passenger has a confirmed reservation for the train, class and journey date shown in the PNR result.
A confirmed ticket may show coach and berth details immediately, or those details may be allotted when the reservation chart is prepared.
CNF and chart preparation
Chart preparation is the stage when final passenger placement is prepared for the journey. After this, coach and berth information is usually more stable.
If your PNR shows CNF but no berth, check again after chart preparation. The confirmed status and berth display are related but not always shown at the same moment.
CNF vs RAC
CNF means a confirmed berth is expected. RAC means the passenger can usually travel with a seat arrangement and may get a full berth if cancellations happen.
If a ticket moves from RAC to CNF, the passenger's reservation has improved from conditional/shared seating to confirmed accommodation.
