The Kangra Valley Railway is a historic narrow-gauge railway connecting Pathankot with Joginder Nagar through the Kangra Valley.
The railway passes through a landscape of Himalayan foothills, fields, rivers and mountain settlements, with views toward the Dhauladhar mountain range.
Unlike some hill railways that rely heavily on long tunnels, much of the Kangra Valley Railway follows the natural contours of the terrain.
The route serves places including Kangra, Palampur and Baijnath and has remained an important local transport connection in addition to its tourism value.
Indian Railways has recognised the route as part of its railway heritage, and steam-hauled special services have also been organised on sections of the line.
The Kangra Valley Railway is included on UNESCO's Tentative List as a proposed extension to the Mountain Railways of India but has not yet been inscribed as a World Heritage Site.
