Head-On Generation, commonly called HOG, is an electrical power-supply system used on compatible Indian Railways trains.
In older End-On Generation arrangements, diesel generator cars supplied electricity for air-conditioning, lights and other onboard equipment.
Under HOG, electricity is taken from the overhead traction system through the electric locomotive and converted into the electrical supply required by the coaches.
The technology helps reduce diesel consumption, noise and local emissions associated with generator cars.
