The Dibrugarh–Kanyakumari Vivek Express is one of the most remarkable long-distance railway services in India.

The train connects Dibrugarh in Assam with Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, creating a railway link between India's far northeast and the southern end of the mainland.

The service covers approximately 4,189 kilometres, making it the longest scheduled train journey in India by distance. Southern Railway has publicly identified the route as India's longest train journey.

The train passes through a remarkable variety of landscapes and regions, travelling through northeastern India, eastern India and much of the eastern and southern coastline before reaching Tamil Nadu.

Important locations along the route include areas around Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Kolkata-region connections, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram and finally Kanyakumari.

Vivek Express services were introduced following the 2011 railway programme commemorating Swami Vivekananda, and the Dibrugarh–Kanyakumari service became the most famous train in the series.

Unlike Vande Bharat or Gatimaan, the importance of Vivek Express is not its maximum speed. Its distinction comes from the extraordinary distance, duration and geographic diversity of its route.

Passengers travelling end-to-end spend roughly three days aboard the train, making it one of the most distinctive railway journeys available on the Indian Railways network.

The service also demonstrates the enormous geographic reach of India's railway system, connecting communities thousands of kilometres apart through a single scheduled train.
